The Pope’s Triple gift to the Salvatorian Family

The Pope’s Triple gift to the Salvatorian Family

Pope Francis, whose life and teachings shocked, moved, and changed the world globally, has left behind something for every single person who met him. His simple lifestyle, which stepped out of many protocols, is admirable and unforgettable. The news of 90,000 people flocking to Saint Peter’s Basilica to pay homage to the resting Pope in a single day is not astonishing because such was his love for his flock—a global flock, not just Christians but everyone, all-inclusive and universal.

The Salvatorian family of laypeople, fathers, and sisters also feels the pinch of his loss at this troubling moment in our history. As the roar of war gets louder in our society, the Salvatorian family looks for new and renewed ways to be part of the peace movement called out by Pope Francis. Remembering and mourning the loss of this prophet of peace, Sr. Maria Yaneth Moreno has called out to all its members for prayer and thanksgiving for our beloved Pope. The Salvatorian family will gratefully remember Franciscus, who bestowed three remarkable gifts upon them.

  1. Pope Francis approved and beatified our dear founder, Bl. Francis Jordan, on May 15, 2021. In a video during the thanksgiving year for the beatification of Bl. Jordan, he lovingly addressed all Salvatorian family members and encouraged them not to be afraid to be apostles beyond borders.

  2. Under Pope Franciscus’ leadership, the Lay Salvatorian members received official papal recognition as the Dicastery for Laity, Family, and Life recognized them as an International Association of the Faithful.

  3. The Sisters of the Divine Savior received a private audience with him during their 22nd General Chapter. On this occasion, Pope Franciscus jokingly asked Sr. Maria Yaneth if they had any vocations from Europe. In his message on the same day, he told the Salvatorian Sisters to be like Maria, who was a polar star that directs everyone towards Jesus and not oneself.

The Salvatorian sisters had many other opportunities to meet and talk to Pope Franciscus because he was so simple that it was not difficult to approach him. For example, Sr. Gabriela Lemma, the former provincial superior of the Italian Salvatorian sisters, wrote a letter to him regarding the situation of their school in Sheildi, Albania. Surprisingly, they received a reply from Pope Francis himself. It is impossible to put into words how the Salvatorian family will miss our dear Franciscus.

Let us pray and continue to put into practise the teachings of Pope Franciscus.

A tribute to the most loved “people’s Pope”

A tribute to the most loved “people’s Pope”

The most loved “people’s Pope”, this is how Pope Francis is dearly called by the media. He was simple human yet courageous who didn’t hesistate to address the unspoken issues, who laughs and cries, shares light moments with those around him. Francis has resonated with people worldwide with his deep humility and faith-focused presence for the people, especially the poor. The first non european pope in centuries he has won millions of hearts of the world wide Christians and non believers, not to mention first from the Jesuit order, a historic point of tension with the Holy See, Francis has broken expectations and has reimagined the papacy.

He has been both the face of appreciation and the contraverse. His papacy is characterized by a line of bold, humanitarian actions that drew the admiration of some like visiting Lampedusa, Italy, a place where illegal migrants land up in europe, the washing of the feet of the women. Through his convening of the Synod on the Amazon, he addressed the environmental crisis and indigenous peoples’ rights with urgency. And his gesture of haggoating the feet of South Sudan’s leaders, pleading for them to embrace peace, was a touching plea for reconciliation. Also, his choice to live in the Domus Sanctae Marthae guesthouse rather than the lavish papal apartments shows his desire to be humble and available to all.

Born in Buenos Aires, Airgentina on December 17, 1936 as the eldest of the five children from Mario José Bergoglio and Regina María Sívori. Inspired by the Jesuit order, he was ordained a priest in 1969. His leadership qualities were evident early on, serving as Jesuit provincial superior from 1973 to 1979. He later became Archbishop of Buenos Aires in 1998.

Through his encyclicals – Lumen Fidei, Laudato Si’, Fratelli Tutti, and Dilexit Nos – Pope Francis has courageously brought attention to critical global challenges by creating platforms for worldwide discussion. Beyond the boundaries of the Catholic Church Pope Francis’s strong climate action gave firm support for migrant rights and his strict position against clerical sexual abuse “Zero Tolence”mentioned in Delixit nos have gained widespread attention.

Pope Francis has received widespread positive attention from international media which emphasizes his genuine nature and caring approach. This also helped the church to gain back its true identiy as an all inclusive and motherly church.

The Street artist Mauro Pallotta’s depiction of Pope Francis as “supero hero”. The increase of the crowd at regular Wednesday papal audience and the Sundady Angelus address shows how much Pope Francis is loved the common folks.

Pope Francis’s papacy confirms his motto “miserando atque elignedo” which means “By having mercy he chose us”. Mercy was the central theme of his teaching and living. As we now with utmost heaviness bid loving farewell to our dear Jorge Bergoglio, let us continue to carry on his legacy and ideals of “MERCY, LOVE AND CARE FOR THE NEIGHBOUR” as he says in his Angelus message on the solemnity of Christ the King, 2017 “At the end of our life we will be judged on love, that is, on our concrete commitment to love and to serve Jesus in our smallest and most needy brothers.”

The Installation of the New Salvatorian Sisters’ General Administration

Pilgrims of Hope, Pilgrims of Spirit:

On January 25, 2025, the Salvatorian Sisters marked a significant milestone with the official installation of their new General Administration in Rome, coinciding with the Feast of St. Paul the Apostle. The much-anticipated ceremony took place in the Motherhouse of the Salvatorian Sisters and was highlighted by a solemn Holy Eucharist presided over by Fr. Krzysztof Kowalczyk, General Superior of the Society of the Divine Savior. The event was graced by the presence of various guests, including members from the Society of the Divine Savior, local religious men and women, well-wishers, and friends. The Salvatorian Brothers from the Torre De Cenci community enriched the ceremony with their harmonious voices, making the day all the more memorable.

The new leadership team was symbolically presented with the Jubilee Pilgrim Cross, a sign of their role as Pilgrims of Hope-Pilgrims of Spirit. This cross represents their mission to walk alongside others, sharing in their joys and challenges while carrying their own responsibilities with hope and enthusiasm. The newly installed General Administration includes:

  • Sr. Maria Yaneth Moreno Rodriguez – General Superior
  • Sr. Jacqueline Mwakasu Kona – General Vicaress
  • Sr. Brigitte Thalhammer – General Councilor and General Treasurer
  • Sr. Suneela Polimetla – General Councilor
  • Sr. Ellen Sinclair – General Councilor
  • Sr. Eloisa Adamos Holdiem – General Secretary

Sr. Maria Yaneth Moreno Rodriguez, from Colombia, serves as General Superior for a second term. Her cheerful and approachable nature has made her an exceptional leader since she first assumed the role in 2012.

Sr. Jacqueline Mwakasu Kona, born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, is the General Vicaress. Having served since 2018, she is well-loved for her welcoming demeanor, particularly from her years as a formator in Congo.

She has held multiple leadership roles, including travel agent, pastoral assistant, and Provincial Superior of Austria from 2009 to 2018 and is known for her courage and compassion in guiding the congregation. She aspires to accompany the processes of merger in the Salvatorian presence in Europe in a fruitful way: caring well for our elderly sisters, ensuring space for younger sisters to live their mission, and creating space for the new and yet unknown.

Sr. Ellen Sinclair, from the USA, has a background in law. She served as an Army Judge Advocate and a Civilian attorney. She also served in legal matters in the Diocesan Tribunal and with the Public Defender’s Offic. She also has led various leadership capacities in the USA Province from 2009 to 2022. Her humility and openness to the Spirit’s guidance help her deepen the Salvatorian identity and foster intercultural collaboration.

Sr. Suneela Polimetla from India brings many years of experience as a formator and psychologist. She is one of the first five candidates from India to receive Salvatorian formation in Austria. She aims to listen and be a part in all the joys and struggles that come across. To have the courage to let go and be able to make new decisions that help each one to grow in freedom with responsibility and accountability. Her message to the members of congregation is trust in Divine Providence and let God Lead. Her sibling Sr. Amita Polimetla is also a Salvatorian.

Sr. Eloisa Holdiem from the Philippines has been General Secretary for a year, known for her joyful and enthusiastic spirit. She has been pivotal in developing Salvatorian pastoral initiatives for children in the Philippines.

With these dynamic leaders, the General Administration is poised to inspire hope, rekindle the Spirit, and continue the mission of proclaiming the Gospel as true Pilgrims of Hope-Pilgrims of Spirit.

30th Day: XXII General Chapter_Closing Ceremony

On the last day of the general chapter, another faith-sharing was done focusing on the gospel of today, and they shared on what gratitude they carry in their hearts in this shared journey of faith. The regular faith-sharing created in the capitulars the sense of the “holy” within them, as starting the day with the words of the Lord is indeed a blessing.

The first half of the day was spent on the two points needing formal voting, after some kind of deliberation and the meeting of the capitulars by continent. This meeting calls for an agreement on some plans and program designs where the different units in the continents strengthen their collaboration in the different areas of concern as Salvatorian religious life.

In the afternoon, the very meaningful closing liturgy was organized by the members of the Steering Committee. It is incorporated in the Holy Mass presided over by Fr. Milton Zonta, SDS– General Superior of the Society of the Divine Savior (Salvatorian Sisters), with Fr. Agustin Van Baelen, SDS – General Councilor/Secretary. In his homily, he spoke of gratefulness too. He thanked the capitulars for their apostolic service and their sense of belonging to the Salvatorian Family, together with the other branches. In regard to today’s gospel, he asks them to be very attentive and not to be carried away by mechanisms that cause division and counter-witness in our relationships with others.

In the evening the sisters cerebrated the joyful sisterly union that eliminated all tiredness and brought them more closer the sisters more closer to each other.
