“Pilgrims of Hope”_ A book by Sr. Natanaela SDS
The late Pope Francis, who has passed on to his eternal rest, called on the faithful to be “Pilgrims of Hope” by opening the Jubilee door on Dec 24, 2024. The Jubilee is a time of pilgrimage, prayer, reflection, and renewal of faith. All over the world, the faithful are undertaking various observances, especially pilgrimages to sacred places and churches, to mark this “2025 Jubilee Year of Pilgrims of Hope.” Approximately 32 million people have visited Rome since the opening of the Jubilee door on Dec 24 by Pope Francis. Pilgrimage to Rome as part of the Jubilee year involves diverse reasons, devotion, and emotion. Rome, as the seat of the mother church, offers solace to its weary children who are pilgrims of hope in search of unfathomable consolation.
For us Salvatorians, Rome is not just a place of foundation but a place close to the bosom of the Mother Church. As Bl. Jordan says, “Our Center is Rome at Home with the Mother Church.” Bl. Mary of the Apostles also holds Rome very dear to her heart: “O Holy City! I have longed for you all my life! Apostolic Rome! What could be more welcome!” While all eyes are fixed on Rome throughout this Jubilee Year, we Salvatorians also have a significant occasion to embark on the pilgrimage in the footsteps of our founders who have walked, worked, and lived in Rome.
A big thanks to Sr.Natanaela SDS, who compiled a book “Pilgrims of Hope, in the footsteps of the Blessed Francis Jordan and Mary of the Apostles”. She proposes a pilgrimage with our Blessed ones that includes 10 important churches for our Salvatorian spirituality. The scheme of the pilgrimage consists of some information about the place (chapel, church or house), a reflection on pilgrimage and a thought of hope from the writings of the Blessed ones. Each place ends with a proposal of the intention with which to set off to the next point by praying the Rosary, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, or another chosen prayer. The intentions relate to the theme of vocation, as the main intention of the prepared prayer is to discover, deepen, and strengthen the vocation, which will be the discovery, deepening and strengthening of our best self, as that is God’s version of ourselves.
